In recent years, freeze-dried food has become increasingly popular, with freeze-dried candies being one of the beloved delicious snacks.

Recently, we received an order of weighing-type filling machine from a client for filling these freeze-dried candies. In this blog post, we will discuss the effectiveness of using a weighing-type filling machine for filling freeze-dried candies.

Regarding the working principle of the weighing-type filling machine, please refer to this article (HOW DOES A WEIGHING-TYPE POWDER&PARTICLE FILLING MACHINE WORK?)

To understand the process, let’s first explore how freeze-dried candies are made — Freeze-Drying involves freezing regular candies and then evaporating the water content at low temperatures.
This method preserves the nutritional value of the food while enhancing its flavor. Additionally, freeze-dried food have an extended shelf life and are widely used in processing various types of food.

Before filling the freeze-dried candies into packaging bags, considering the irregular round shape of these candies, it is crucial to ensure that the machine can accurately measure the weight of each filling.
Fortunately, we have previously conducted precision tests on WHOPPERS chocolates, which are even rounder and more challenging to control (TESTING THE FILLING OF WHOPPERS WITH 1KG FILLING MACHINE). The test results showed that there may be an overfill of 1-3 chocolates per filling, but the impact is minimal. This demonstrates that our filling machine’s performance is theoretically sufficient for distributing freeze-dried candies accurately, avoiding overfilling or underfilling.

Furthermore, as the moisture evaporates, freeze-dried candies become more brittle. We considered whether the vibration feeding method of the machine would cause most of the candies to break. However, this concern was dispelled when we observed video footage of the client’s candy production process.

If there were no instances of candy breakage during this process, it is unlikely that the machine’s gentler vibration feeding method would cause candy breakage.

However, freeze-dried candies are prone to moisture absorption and contain sugar. Although we have ensured the accuracy and quality of filling freeze-dried candies, if the ambient temperature and humidity are too high, sticky syrup can form inside the machine, which not only affects the filling performance but also creates a breeding ground for bacteria.

Even with our machine made of high-quality 304 stainless steel, this problem cannot be completely avoided. Before the client placed the formal order, we informed them of this risk and advised them to minimize the temperature and humidity of the operating environment to mitigate the issue.

In conclusion, using a weighing-type filling machine allows for the efficient filling of freeze-dried candies under specific environmental conditions. This improves production efficiency, ensures product quality and consistency.
